J.D's:
It is located in Olympic Square just up the street from the underground Wal-Mart. If you're looking to meet other international students JD's is the place to go. It stays open until 4 am and is packed with foreigners from 1 am till close almost any day of the week. Before 1 am you'll find a good number of locals. JD's plays a variety of music from Techno, Hip Hop, Pop, and Island Music. The DJ's are quite friendly, so if they are not playing the music you prefer to get jiggy to then don't hesitate to slip them your own private music compilation. As for drinks, you can get a large warm Tsingtao or a small cold nameless brand beer for approx. ¥ 10.
Sparks:
Sparks is located just around the corner from J.D.'s and is another place where international students like to hang out. It has a pool table, and though it looks a little sketchy from the outside, it has an amazing decorum within. Sparks is relatively new, but by the time you arrive I suspect that it will become a more popular club site. They play mostly play hip hop with occasional techno songs.
The Bar:
With such a clever name it is hard to imagine how this place manages to stay continually empty. It is located right on the corner of the Trust Mart and is a good place to go just to be out and spend a little quality time with one another. It has a piano, foosball, and a pool table. Surprisingly enough, this joint has a drink special nearly every night which is perfect if you're feeling particularly cheap. The music is usually very mellow.
Dave's Bar:
Dave's bar is another popular hang out spot for the internationals. In fact you may even find this listed in a travel book. It is located in Zhongshan Guangchang on Qi Yi Lu. It has decent music at times, reasonably priced drinks, and a free pack of cards for entertainment should you get bored. Once again if you are not feeling the music politely offer the DJ your own homemade mix. You can get a beer or a shot of liquor for just ¥ 10.
Bonasa:
If you happen to live in the foreign student dormitories then you might find a poster for this club smack dab in the middle of the living room. It is one of the DUT students' favorite late night spots. Unfortunately we didn't actually go inside, so we can't give you the shake down on this club. There is a small cover charge of ¥ 5. As for music, you can hear the loud banging sound of techno even from the outside. If you'd like to check out how DUT students get down, we suggest that you persuade one of your grad students into taking you there one night.
Banana New Music Club:
This club is located in Xi Wang GuangChang (Hope Square) and is a waste of money. It looks promising with its flashy lights, but its all down hill once you enter. First off, the drinks are way overpriced, and they make everyone in your party order at least one. The music is strictly techno, and it is filled only with locals.
Number One Disco:
This is located in Sheng Li Guang Chang (Victory Square) and is another hot spot for the locals. If you desire a taste of the upscale club scene in Dalian, we would recommend this over Banana New Music Club. The drinks cost less and they have exciting games of connect four at each table.
